Moments of Inspiration

What can the saints of yesterday offer us today? They offer us timeless wisdom and inspiration, while bringing up closer to God. Sanctity surpasses time and is forever near us.

In her book, 11-16-2016-4-20-59-pm Donna-Marie Cooper O’Boyle shares insights on how to strive to imitate the saints’ virtues, learn from their timeless wisdom, and ask for their intercessions.

An excerpt from her book:

“Ultimately, we should see the saints as models of sanctity for us to imitate, as well as tremendous intercessors, helping us when we invoke them. We should indeed seek out saints, who will surely help lead us to God, assisting us along the way.

St. Dominic reassured his brothers as he was dying: ‘Do not weep, for I shall be more useful to you after my death, and I will shall help you then more effectively than during my life.’ ”

Why Do We Pray to Saints?

Outside Inspiration Header

In November, theROCK is Focused on Saints

From Mike Hayes, Co-Founder of Busted

Have you ever had a friend you’ve asked to pray for you? When we ask a saint to pray for us, we are doing the exact same thing. The difference is that saints are 04165320people who the church has ample evidence that they are conclusively in heaven with God.

That is why we ask for their intercession. Intercession means they are the “liaison” between us and God. They bring our prayers to God, ask God to receive these prayers and grant our requests. Because we believe the saints are closer to God than we are, at present, we believe they are people that can help us with our needs.

Our faith calls us to believe that our prayers are always answered by God, giving us what we need, not merely what we want or what we think is best.

The saints are people who know to ask God for what will truly benefit us and not merely what will placate us.

Focus on Saints

saint-quote-for-novemberPope Francis has stressed that the saints are not “supermen” who were “born perfect,” but rather are ordinary people who followed God “with all their heart.”

“They are like us, they are like each of us, they are people who, before reaching the glory of heaven, lived a normal life with joy and grief, struggles and hopes.”

Each saint changed his or her life “when they recognized the love of God, they followed Him with all their heart, without condition and hypocrisies.”

“Everyone can be a saint,” the Pope said. “The goal of our existence is not death, it is paradise.”

This month theROCK is Focused on Saints.
